Man's Apocalypse

The fire-red sky--
It's raining
The clouds fall ablaze.

The crops burn
And the animals scream
The people nestle and cry

It's God's curse
These flames are
A dragon's wrath

"The sun has shattered!"
The people proclaim
"No, it is the demons of Hell!"

It is neither, sadly for them
The rain is aflame
Because of the people

Despair to your long-forgotten god
Dance your rain-bringing dance
All will just draw the dragon's eye

A hope to fight? Bah.
I am your child, and you are my parents
I am the flames

Try to quell me with water
Bring the whole river
I am the water

I hunger, I thirst
I shall devour all in my path
I am the dragon

Pray, dance, sacrifice
A blind eye sees not your futile offerings
I am your god

Use your technology-- Your metal machines
It's hopeless, I'll melt and destroy them
I am your invention

It's useless-- My pace is unstoppable
Upon your door I knock
I am inevitable
The title feels over-used, but I can't think of a better one, so that's what I'm calling it.
I wrote this in class because I was done with the work. I wrote this just because I had the image of a dragon...somehow it turned into this...yay!
I don't believe I've used such a massive shift in my poems before (3rd to 1st person), and I'm still unsure of it effect. Oh well. Enjoy!
